Lawyer's Prayer Attributed to Sir Thomas More
O Lord, author of all right ordinances, and source of all order and wise judgment.
I thank you for leading me to the glorious profession of law, civil and ecclesiastical.
Grant that I may be able in argument, accurate in analysis, strict in study, insightful in perplexity, candid with clients and honest with adversaries.
Sit with me at my desk and listen with me to my clients' plaints.
Bestow your gifts upon me in all incidents of my profession and lead me to the most profound and searching legal thought of which I am capable.
Be thou in my research, Be thou in my reading, Be thou in my writing, Be thou in my teaching, Be thou in my pleading, Be thou in my counseling, Be thou in my mind, Be thou in my lips, and Be thou in my heart.
Bless my clients. Help me to understand their true needs, and advise, defend, and plead for them with wisdom and efficacy.
Bless my fellow lawyers and judges, and all those who apply the law in furtherance of your will.
And grant that after seeking your justice in the City of Man, I may eternally delight in your law in the City of God. Amen.
